[10:13]  1 tn Heb “Is it not written down in the Scroll of the Upright One.” Many modern translations render, “the Scroll [or Book] of Jashar,” leaving the Hebrew name “Jashar” (which means “Upright One”) untranslated.

[10:13]  sn The Scroll of the Upright One was apparently an ancient Israelite collection of songs and prayers (see also 2 Sam 1:18).

[10:13]  2 tn Heb “and did not hurry to set [for] about a full day.”

[20:3]  3 tn Heb “so that the one who kills, taking life accidentally without knowledge, may flee there.”

[20:5]  4 tn Heb “for without knowledge he killed his neighbor, and he was not hating him prior to that.”

[20:9]  5 tn The Hebrew text reads simply “the cities.” The words “for refuge” are supplied for clarification.

[20:9]  6 tn Heb “and not die by the hand of.”

[20:9]  7 tn Heb “until he stands before the assembly.” The words “at least” are supplied for clarification.

[22:23]  8 tn Heb “by building.” The prepositional phrase may be subordinated to what precedes, “if in unfaithfulness…by building.”

[22:23]  9 tn Heb “or if to offer up.”

[22:23]  10 tn Heb “or if to make.”

[22:23]  11 tn Or “peace offerings.”

[22:23]  12 tn Heb “the Lord, he will seek.” Perhaps this is a self-imprecation in an oath, “may the Lord himself punish us.”

[24:20]  13 tn Or “when.”

[24:20]  14 tn Or “and serve.”

[24:20]  15 tn The words “against you” are added for clarification.

[24:20]  16 tn Heb “bring you to an end.”

[24:20]  17 tn Heb “after he did good for you.”
